NLHOC RIDE OUT.

SUNDAY 28th MARCH 2010.

CLACTON ON SEA.

Report by : Roland Murphy.

There were 6 of us that took part in the ride; Graham, Alan, Barry, Mike O, Andreas and myself.
We met at the club at 11:00 hours for a 11:30 start.
The weather was good, some cloud but in the main it was sunshine.

We rode off past the Bikers Tea Hut, Theydon Bois station, Abridge, Passengford Bridge, Ongar then the A414 via Chelmsford to Maldon.
We stopped in Maldon at McDonalds (by Tesco’s) and had a coffee break.

We then set off to Clacton going via the B1026 to Goldhanger, Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Abberton Reservoir, Colchester, onto the A134, Past Hythe Station, up to the A133 roundabout and turn right onto the A133,
Turn right onto the B1027 (Colchester Road), left onto the B1027 (Brightlingsea Road), Past St Osyth and turn right into Jaywick Lane,
Turn left onto West Road and follow on into Clacton.

We parked up along the sea front and walked along the prom to the pier.
I asked a bemused lady if she would take a picture of us in front of the pier. She must have thought, who are these elderly gents in biker clothing wanting their picture taken.
The picture is a separate attachment.

We then walked into town and found a very nice restaurant where we had a lovely meal. The service and price were spot on. Certainly a place we would use again.

We then walked back towards the pier where Barry and I had an ice cream.

We walked back along the prom to the bikes. We rode off back towards Maldon, going via Colchester and the B1022 to Maldon.
Passing through one of the villages I negotiated a sharp left corner and found some loose cement/gravel on my ride line. Alan, who was following me saw the bike of my bike twitch but he couldn’t avoid doing the same himself. Andreas who was third in line managed to take a wider line. We all got round the corner safely.
Back at McDonalds we had another coffee and a muffin.
We discussed the day and all were in agreement it had been a great day out.

Leaving Maldon we followed the A414 back towards Chelmsford. People started to peel off towards their homes as we rode towards Epping and the club.

Roland Murphy.
