SUNDAY 2nd MAY 2010
AD HOC RIDE OUT
FINCHINGFIELD
Today was going to be a ride out around Essex.
Days ago Saturday was supposed to be wet and Sunday, the day of the ride out, was supposed to be dry.
As Sunday approached so the weather people kept changing their forecast for the day of the ride.
The forecast was for rain overnight Saturday and during Sunday up to 13:00 hours. I decided that the ride was to be put back from 10:00 hours to 13:30 hours and so e-mailed and text everyone advising them of this.
On Sunday the forecast was changed again to rain all day up to early evening time.
I took the decision to cancel the ride on Sunday and hold it a day later on Monday. I e-mailed and text everyone advising them of this.
Sunday afternoon I rode up to the club and was there from 13:15 hours. I had gone there just in case anyone turned up not seeing my messages that the ride had been moved to Monday.
At 13:30 hours Andreas turned up at the club not having seen my messages. Just as well I had gone there.
We had a cup of coffee and chatted for a while. The weather seemed to be brightening up whilst we were there. Andreas and I decided that we would have a ride out to Finchingfield.
Mike B then called me on my phone and asked who was there for the ride out. I told him that Andreas and myself were there and was thinking of riding out to Finchingfield. Mike said that he would join us.
We rode round to Mike’s house whilst he got ready for the ride.
We rode out via Woodford Green, Ongar, and Dunmow to Finchingfield. There was a small amount of drizzle/rain part of the way there, with the final part of the journey being made in the dry.
We had something to eat and drink in the Tea Room and then had a walk around the Village.
We set off back along the route we took back to Dunmow where we then joined the A120 and the M11.
The ride back was in the dry.
All in all the weather people cocked up big time and it just goes to prove they couldn’t get the weather right to save their skins.
We had a good ride out today and look forward to the ride out tomorrow around Essex.
